Electron Microscope Society of India (EMSI)


Electron Microscope Society of India was inaugurated on 2nd December 1961 at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics by Late Prof. S. N. Bose as a collective effort of several scientists including Prof. N. N. Das Gupta and Dr. (Mrs.) S. M. Sirsat. The first conference of EMSI was held on 2nd and 3rd December 1961. Dr. N. N. Das Gupta was elected as first president of the Society. The society was formally registered with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, Calcutta in March 1962. The foundation membership of the society consisted of about 50 members engaged in electron Microscope work in about 15 laboratories in India. Second conference of the society was held at Indian Cancer Research Centre, Bombay in July 1963. The EMSI society is headed by the President and would have General Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer (s) as the main office bearers.

For the sake proper representation and easiness in taking the Microscope across the various parts of the Country, the Society has been grouped in to five zonal chapters: North, East, West, South and Central zonal chapters. Each zonal chapter is headed by Zonal Chairperson with other team members.

The society is one of its kind having members from vastly different disciplines viz., Materials Science, Physical Sciences, Biological Science, Medical Science, Metallurgical Science, Forensic Science, Agricultural Science, Geological Science etc. Similarly, it has members from different parts of India and while constituting the executive committee of the society. EMSI is happy to announce that the total membership has now stand at 1495 as on 1st October 2017.

Following the tradition, the society has been conducting Annual Meetings regularly, each time by one of the Zonal Chapters. The latest being in Chennai (Mammalapuram) in July, 2017. This was jointly organized by EMSI (south zone), IGCAR – Kalpakkam and IIT Madras (www.emsi.org.in/emsi2017)

Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar


IOP was established in the year 1974, and is an autonomous research Institute under Department of Atomic Energy. The researchers works in both fundamental and applied Physics (http://www.iopb.res.in/).

National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar


NISER was established in the year 2007 as an autonomous Institute under Department of Atomic Energy. The researchers works in the subjects related to Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computers (www.niser.ac.in).

Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (IITBBS), Bhubaneswar


IIT BBSR was established in the year 2008 as one of IITs newly setup technology Institutes under Ministry of Human Resources. The researchers works in the subjects related to basic sciences, engineering, earth, oceanography, and other areas related to technology (www.iitbbs.ac.in).

Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT)


IMMT was established in the year 1964 by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India. The main focus area of research of IMMT is mining and mineral/bio-mineral processing, metal extraction and materials characterization, etc. (www.immt.res.in).

Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar


ILS was established in the year 1989 and is an autonomous research Institute under Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. The researchers carry out multidisciplinary research in the area of life sciences (www.ils.res.in).

Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute(CGCRI)


Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) is one of the first four among the 38 National laboratories set up under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). The Institute was formally inaugurated on August 26, 1950.The various research activities in CGCRI are towards the development of various materials including specialty glass, optical fibres and optical fibre based sensors, Solid-oxide Fuel-Cell, Ceramic Membranes for purification of water and gas, Non-oxide Ceramics, Refractories, Bio-Ceramic Materials for orthopedic implants, Nano-structured Materials as well as sensors and actuators.(www.cgcri.res.in).
